Established in Itta Bena, MS, Kappa Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was chartered on March 16, 1974. The need for the chapter arose as a result of the arrival of educated women graduating and settling the surrounding counties near Mississippi Valley State University. These counties include Leflore, Sunflower, Holmes, and Humphreys.
